Petra, Jan. 6 (Petra) – Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Faris Briezat, inspected ongoing construction of tourism facilities in the city of Petra (southern Jordan).
The visit aligns with PDTRA’s commitment to monitoring the progress of tourism projects and addressing challenges facing investors to facilitate the completion of their ventures.
Breizat noted that 1,455 hotel keys are currently under construction in Petra, representing investments worth JD127 million. These projects have already benefited from exemptions totaling JD2.5 million on purchases valued at JD12 million.
He added that several hotels are expected to open by the end of this year, emphasizing the significance of these projects in enhancing Petra’s tourism infrastructure, improving visitor experiences, and increasing tourist numbers.
Breizat highlighted that these initiatives align with the Kingdom’s Economic Modernization Vision and support PDTRA’s objectives to bolster Petra’s status as a global tourist destination.
Separately, he announced that Petra’s Caravan Operators Association will manage the “Al Madras Trail,” currently being developed by PDTRA to enrich visitors’ experiences at the archaeological site.
During a tour of the trail organized by the association in collaboration with PDTRA, Breizat explained that the trail, soon to be launched, will offer a unique experience by reviving the Nabataean method of olive pressing at the “Al Madras” site. PDTRA has planted 4,000 olive trees to support this initiative, where visitors can harvest olives, transport them via caravans, and witness the traditional pressing process.
The trail will also feature an environmental and cultural exhibit showcasing the history of olive oil production from the Nabataean era to the present, alongside related culinary experiences.
Mahdi Shamasin, President of the Petra’s Caravan Operators Association, emphasized the trail’s importance in providing a distinctive tourism experience and enhancing the benefits of tourism for horse operators and the local community.
