“Siraj Oman” Initiative Launched

Muscat, 22 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The Ministry of Culture, Sports
and Youth today launched the “Siraj Oman”, a knowledge and cultural
initiative introduced by the Ministry with the aim of activating Oman
Encyclopaedia and Oman Encyclopaedia for Young People across all schools in the
Sultanate of Oman, in coordination with the Ministry of Education.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of Sayyid Said Sultan
Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for
Culture.

During the ceremony marking the launch of the “Siraj
Oman” initiative’s identity, the programme “Our Culture is the Source
of Our Identity” was unveiled — a visual presentation featuring a series
of episodes to be broadcast across media platforms in cooperation with the
Ministry of Information. The Siraj digital game was also announced.

Additionally, the “Printed Omani Heritage Lexicon” was
launched, a bibliographic documentation project aimed at surveying and
introducing printed Omani heritage by documenting its intellectual output and presenting
its data in a scientific and methodical manner. The lexicon constitutes a
contribution to highlighting Oman’s efforts in serving Arab heritage and to
introducing the scientific and intellectual output produced by Omanis over the
centuries, thereby facilitating access for researchers and those interested to
this knowledge corpus and supporting efforts to preserve, study, and revive it.

The initiative targets all segments of society, beginning with
the school community, which forms the foundational building block of society —
this group constitutes approximately 50 percent of the population — and
extending to the rest of society’s segments, as well as tourists and residents
in the Sultanate of Oman.
