
Amman, Jan. 27 (Petra) – The Ministry of Education and the World Food Program (WFP) signed two agreements on Monday to enhance food provision and technical assistance for the National School Nutrition Program’s strategic plan (2023-2027) in Jordan.
Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah and WFP Resident Representative and Country Director Alberto Correia Mendes signed the agreements, reinforcing their commitment to advancing school nutrition initiatives as part of WFP’s country strategy.
Mahafzah highlighted the significant role of student nutrition programs in increasing school enrollment, improving academic performance, reducing dropout rates, enhancing student health, and fostering positive behavior. He lauded the strong partnership between the ministry and WFP in achieving these goals.
Mendes commended the cooperation between WFP and the ministry, which extends beyond direct food provision to administrative and educational efforts aimed at developing the national school meals program. He emphasized the program’s critical role in supporting the Kingdom’s education sector.
Currently, the school feeding program benefits 520,000 students across most education directorates and refugee camps. It offers two models: a healthy meal and two types of biscuits date biscuits and fortified biscuits.
