Amman, Feb. 5 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development and Head of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, on Wednesday discussed with UN Women Regional Director, Moez Doraid, cooperation in implementing the Middle East Women’s Initiative (MEWI).
During the meeting, Bani Mustafa stressed the importance of the partnership with the UN Women, which led to enhancing women’s participation in multiple areas.
Bani Mustaf noted the MEWI’s importance to promote women’s employment in Arab countries, including Jordan, aimed to increase their economic participation.
After studying the priorities of the women’s empowerment strategy in the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) and its alignment with the initiative to promote women’s employment, she referred to “clear” opportunities for cooperation under MEWI’s areas.
During the past period, she said achievements came within the framework of the EMV’s executive plan and the Kingdom’s three political, economic and administrative modernization paths, which reflect Jordan’s “true” commitment and political will to raise women’s economic participation.
Achievements made under one of the priorities of the EMV’s women economic empowerment axis aims to increase women’s participation to 28%, she said.
Meanwhile, Doraid expressed appreciation for the achievements made for Jordanian women, within the EMV’s framework, which aligns with the programs provided under UN Women’s current activities.
Jordan, he noted, was chosen among a number of Arab countries to cooperate in the MEWI, due to the “qualitative” achievements made in the field of women’s economic empowerment.
Doraid added that the Kingdom has taken “pivotal” steps in the field of updating legislation that formed the basis and driver for advancing the reality of Jordanian women.
Additionally, he reviewed the MEWI regional program aimed to ensure women’s employment by 5% before 2023, and increase their access to job opportunities.
