Amman, Feb. 5 (Petra) – The First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Mustafa Khasawneh, emphasized that Jordan possesses a unique model of religious coexistence on a global level.
His remarks came while leading a parliamentary delegation to participate in the “Jordan: Dawn of Christianity” exhibition at the Cancelleria Palace (Palazzo della Cancelleria) in Rome, Italy. The event was attended by Jordan’s Ambassador to Italy, Qais Abu Dayyeh, and the Kingdom’s non-resident Ambassador to the Vatican, Lina Hadid.
Khasawneh highlighted that the Hashemite leadership, since Jordan’s founding, has promoted values of tolerance and coexistence, ensuring equality among all citizens without discrimination based on religion or any other differences. He pointed out that the Jordanian Constitution guarantees equal rights and duties for all Jordanians.
Khasawneh underscored that Jordan’s rich heritage, diverse cultures, and traditions form a beautiful mosaic reflecting harmony, mutual respect, and a glorious historical legacy. He further expressed pride in Jordan’s efforts to promote its image globally, noting that exhibitions like this deliver essential messages to the world about Jordan’s potential as a safe and beautiful tourist destination.
He reaffirmed that the Jordanian Parliament stands ready to support initiatives that boost Jordan’s tourism, economy, and investment sector, while showcasing its historical, natural, and religious landmarks.
The “Jordan: Dawn of Christianity” exhibition is held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II for one month. It is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Vatican. The exhibition introduces Italian and international audiences to Jordan’s role as the cradle of Christianity, highlighting the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist in the Jordan River and the continued preservation of this sacred heritage under Hashemite leadership.
