Senate Head: Jordan firmly stands against designs to target its security, liquidate Palestinian issue

Amman, Feb 8 (Petra) — Senate President Faisal Fayez reiterated Jordan’s rejection of scenarios put forth by the US administration, or any designs that target its national security, liquidate the Palestinian issue and displace Palestinians.

He said in remarks to Al Mamlaka Television on Friday that Jordan has the ability to address challenges, as it had faced and surmounted enormous and difficult hurdles since its creation in 1921, and ever since continued as a strong and resilient state.

Given its key geopolitical location, Jordan is a pillar of stability in the Middle East, a role recognized by the countries of the region, the West and even the United States, he noted, adding that chaos in it means chaos in the entire region, therefore, it is not in anyone’s interest to tamper with the Kingdom’s security and stability.

Jordan’s security and stability are first and foremost, he said, noting the efficient and balanced Jordanian diplomacy and relations with the region and the world, led by His Majesty the King, which spared it many dangers.

He pointed to His Majesty the King’s upcoming “important” visit to the United States, which, he said, is part of networking with the US administration, Congress, the Defense Ministry and other institutions to spare the region from any repercussions from President Donald Trump’s initiative.

He also spoke of divisions in the Republican Party over the initiative, and also referred to protests against it and opposition by Democrats, as it leads to instability in the Middle East.

Fayez also cited the positions of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, which reject the US administration’s initiative and support His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts to solve the Palestinian issue.
