
Amman, Feb. 13 (Petra) – The Senate Labor and Social Development Committee, chaired by Senator Issa Murad, met Thursday with a delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO) to discuss labor standards and cooperation initiatives.
The delegation included Kirsten-Maria Schapira, an expert in international labor standards at the ILO’s Arab region office, and Reem Aslan, the ILO’s representative in Jordan.
Murad emphasized the importance of international labor standards in enhancing workplace safety and ensuring decent working conditions for all, including women and people with disabilities. He highlighted Jordan’s commitment to labor rights through ratified agreements and ongoing legislative reforms in labor laws and social security.
Aslan noted the ILO’s role in monitoring labor markets in countries that have ratified the International Labor Standards Convention and in assessing legislative compliance.
Schapira praised Jordan’s efforts in implementing international labor standards and commended its economic modernization vision as a step toward strengthening occupational health and safety. She reaffirmed the ILO’s commitment to working with member states on labor reforms, including addressing child labor.
