Customs: Cross-border, transit trucking peaks since start of year

Amman, Feb 15 (Petra) — Customs authorities at land crossings are handling an “unprecedented” cross-border flow of inbound trucks or vehicles transiting to Syria and Lebanon, according to President of the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies Daifallah Abu Aqouleh.

“Customs management at the border centers are doubling efforts to handle trucks coming to the Kingdom, and that additional staff have been assigned and duty hours extended to accommodate for a growing number of trucks crossing to the Kingdom,” he said.

Some 25,010 freight trucks have entered through Al-Omari border post with Saudi Arabia since the start of the year until yesterday, compared to 22,874 in the same period of 2024, while 23,915 vehicles exited the crossing, compared to 21,804 during the same comparison period last year, he said.

He said 12,760 trucks entered Jordan through the Jaber border crossing with Syria since the beginning of the year until Friday, compared to 3,448 in the same period last year, while 13,446 trucks exited the center, compared to 3,548 during the same period last year.

Aqouleh expected cross-border trucking to increase before the holy month of Ramadan.
