French delegation visits Aqaba, inspects tourism landscape, investment opportunities

Aqaba, Feb 15 (Petra) – A high-level French delegation visited Aqaba as part of a comprehensive orientation program on Jordan’s tourism offerings, organized by the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).

The visit aimed to enhance Jordan’s position as a leading global tourism destination, highlighting local experiences and promising investment opportunities that blend history with modernity. This effort seeks to further establish Aqaba and Wadi Rum as outstanding models for sustainable tourism development in the region.

During the delegation’s reception, Hamza Al-Haj Hassan, ASEZA Deputy Chairman and Commissioner for Economic Development and Tourism, emphasized Aqaba’s status as a well-rounded tourism destination with diverse experiences and attractions. He noted that the French market is among the most significant contributors to Jordan’s tourism sector.

Al-Haj Hassan stated that ASEZA is actively targeting the French market through specialized promotional and marketing campaigns, alongside participation in international exhibitions and tourism fairs.

He also provided a detailed overview of Aqaba’s current landscape, future development plans, and investment incentives offered to investors and business leaders.

He highlighted that infrastructure investment and tourism project activation are key pillars of ASEZA’s 2024-2028 strategy, which aspires to position Aqaba as a competitive economic and tourism hub in the region, appealing to high-value tourism markets such as France.

The delegation, composed of prominent French media professionals, editors-in-chief, and journalists from leading print and broadcast outlets, expressed their appreciation for the ongoing efforts to develop Jordan’s tourism sector.

They affirmed that this visit would open new avenues for cooperation and knowledge exchange in tourism and investment while underscoring Jordan’s appeal to French travelers.

The delegation’s itinerary included a visit to Wadi Rum, exploring its exceptional natural landscapes; the archaeological sites of Islamic Ayla and the Byzantine Church in Aqaba; as well as key historical landmarks such as the Great Arab Revolt Plaza, Sharif Hussein bin Ali House, Aqaba Fortress, Ayla Oasis, and the world-class Ayla Golf Course, recognized among the best golf courses globally.
