Amman, Feb. 15 (Petra) The United Nations Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territories has condemned the escalating Israeli operation in the northern West Bank, calling for an immediate halt to this dangerous wave of violence, mass displacement, and forced eviction.
In a statement issued Saturday, the office said Israeli forces have killed 44 Palestinians including five children and two women since the operation began on Jan. 21. The offensive has affected the governorates of Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas, as well as four refugee camps in those areas. Most of those killed were unarmed and posed no threat to life, the statement added.
The office described the operation as part of a growing pattern of Israel’s unlawful use of force in the West Bank, where no active hostilities are taking place.
It also warned that the operation has led to unprecedented levels of mass displacement in the occupied West Bank in decades, with nearly 40,000 Palestinians forced to flee their homes, according to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
