Palestinian ambassador commends King’s support for Palestinian issue

Amman, February 16 (Petra) — Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Atallah Khairy praised Sunday His Majesty King Abdullah II for his “unwavering” support of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.

Khairy, in an interview with Petra, commended the King’s “bold and wise” stance in defense of the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and establishing a state on their national soil, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He applauded His Majesty’s categorical rejection of any notion of displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip or the occupied West Bank to Jordan or elsewhere.

The ambassador discussed the grave repercussions of displacement on the Palestinian cause and regional stability, and noted the King’s reiteration that the two-state solution is the only viable path to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and end wars in the region.

The two-state solution, he stressed, would ensure security, stability and protection of the rights of all peoples and countries in the region, sparing them the devastation of further conflicts.

Khairy appreciated His Majesty’s announcement that Jordan is ready to host 2,000 children from Gaza for medical treatment in Jordanian hospitals.

Admitting Palestinian children is part of a long history of the King’s generosity to Palestinians in health and other fields, he said, adding that Jordan, under royal directives, was the first country to break the siege on Gaza and start humanitarian aid deliveries through airdrops.

His Majesty and His Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II actively participated in the aid efforts, he said.

The envoy emphasized ongoing close coordination between Jordan and Palestine on political and other issues at the highest levels.
