Amman, Feb 19 (Petra) – The Jordanian Uranium Mining Company (JUMCO) and Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to collaborate in uranium exploration and mining.

The agreement was signed by JUMCO Director General Mohammad Al Shunnaq and Kazatomprom CEO Meirzhan Yussupov, in the presence of Minister of Investment Mothanna Gharaibeh, Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Khaled Toukan, and CEO of Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, Nurlan Zhakupov.

Al Shunnaq said that the agreement aims to develop joint uranium mining projects in Jordan, fostering the global uranium industry through cooperation and knowledge exchange. He highlighted Kazakhstan’s leading role in uranium production, noting that Kazatomprom is the world’s largest producer, engaged in exploration, extraction, processing, and export operations through various subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Kazatomprom’s CEO described the MoU as a crucial step toward future cooperation in nuclear energy and other strategic projects benefiting both nations.

“The agreement opens new opportunities for collaboration between Jordan and Kazakhstan across multiple sectors,” he said, expressing optimism about the promising prospects of bilateral cooperation.

The signing coincides with the official visit of Kazakhstan’s President to Jordan and aligns with His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives to establish strategic partnerships with Kazakhstan to advance sustainable energy development.
