Amman, Feb 22 (Petra) — Save the Children Jordan launched a project Saturday to combat child labor through providing support services for working children and their families.

The “Safe and Sustainable Pathways” project, introduced at Al-Beira Charitable Association in Aira and Yarqa, is implemented in partnership with the Justice Center for Legal Aid and funded by the European Regional Development and Protection Programme (RDPP).

“Child labor is a dangerous phenomenon with severe consequences for our society,” Balqa Governor Salman Al-Najada said at the launch, noting the project aligns with Royal directives for social development.

The project will operate in three areas: Eastern Amman, the Central Jordan Valley in Balqa, and Irbid, focusing on both Jordanian and Syrian refugee children who are working or at risk of child labor, particularly in begging, waste collection, and agricultural work.

Programs Director Sana Hayari said Save the Children Jordan will work with local associations to provide case management, mental health support, legal aid, and community awareness services. The project includes financial assistance to help families return working children to formal education by covering transportation, school supplies, and meals.
