
Amman, Feb 23 (Petra) – Mercy Corps Jordan has launched the Tabeaa (Nature) project, aimed at enhancing climate change resilience and improving disaster preparedness in Jordan. The project is designed to address the growing climate challenges in the country, such as water scarcity, heatwaves, and flash floods.
During the launch ceremony, Jihad Sawaier, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment, emphasized the importance of joint efforts in promoting environmental sustainability in Jordan.
The event featured a presentation on the findings of the project team’s analysis of climate policies and the impacts of floods and heatwaves, followed by an open discussion on ways to strengthen climate resilience in communities.
The project is part of the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance, which aims to bridge the gap between national policies and local-level implementation. Spanning three years, it focuses on supporting the implementation of climate resilience strategies and disaster risk reduction measures.
Darius Radcliffe, Director of Mercy Corps Jordan, highlighted the urgent need for action to tackle climate change, noting the country’s vulnerability to water scarcity and extreme weather events.
He stressed the need to enhance climate resilience efforts to better manage these challenges.
Switzerland’s Ambassador to Jordan, Emilija Georgieva, reiterated her country’s commitment to supporting Jordan in addressing climate challenges and expressed her anticipation for the project’s positive results, looking forward to further strengthening the partnership between the two nations.
