Ramtha, July 27 (Petra) – Northern Ramtha district’s annual potato production stands at 225,000 tonnes, making it the top-ranked Jordanian region in potato production, Director of Ramtha Agriculture, Ahed Obeidat, estimated.
In remarks to “Petra” Sunday, Obeidat said the area planted with potatoes in the district is estimated at 37,000 dunums.
Noting potatoes have “the finest quality,” he said this confirmation comes after testing in the Ministry of Agriculture’s laboratories that showed the product is “free of chemical or organic pesticide residues.”
Obeidat said potato product in Ramtha is irrigated from clean wells, adding that a number of investors have opened food processing plants in Ramtha area to prepare semi-fried potatoes, driven by surplus production.
