Mexican newspaper highlights national team ahead of 2026 World Cup

Amman, March 16 (Petra) — Mexico’s Siglo de Durango newspaper highlighted the national football team as it approaches its anticipated participation in the 2026 World Cup, noting that the team is seeking to make a notable presence in the global tournament.

Journalist Ricardo Hernandez said in a report published on the newspaper’s website that the Jordanian national team has drawn growing attention from observers following its strong results in continental competitions, particularly after reaching the final of the 2023 Asian Cup, reflecting the development of Jordanian football in recent years.

The report noted that the team, widely known as “Al-Nashama,” includes a group of players capable of competing and delivering strong performances, giving it the ambition to achieve positive results in its global appearance.

It also pointed to the cultural symbolism accompanying the team’s victories, explaining that the red-and-white “shemagh” represents national identity and is worn with pride by Jordanian players after their wins.

The report added that Jordan will compete in the 2026 World Cup in Group J alongside Argentina, Algeria, and Austria, a group that is expected to be highly competitive.

It said Jordan’s participation in the World Cup represents a historic milestone for the country’s football and reflects the national team’s growing presence on the international stage.
