Participates in Session of Statistical Commission of OIC in Jeddah

Jeddah,
29 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI)
is participating in the 15th Session of the Statistical Commission of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), being held from 29 to 30 September
2026 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The
event is participated by representatives of statistical offices from OIC member
states, as well as a number of regional and international organizations and
institutions.

The
NCSI is represented during the session by Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO
of the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

The
session addresses a number of priority statistical topics and issues for member
states. The first day’s program includes a review of reports by the
Commission’s Secretariat on the implementation of the resolution adopted at the
14th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission and the implementation of the
Commission’s Work Program for 2026–2030. It will also discuss mechanisms for developing
a monitoring framework for the OIC Program of Action 2026–2035 and translating
strategic priorities into measurable indicators supported by clearly defined
data sources.

The session will also examine ways to modernize population and housing statistics
through digital and interoperable data systems, drawing on digital censuses,
administrative records, vital statistics, household surveys, geospatial
information and alternative data sources. These efforts aim to enhance the
efficiency of statistical systems, support national planning and monitor the
Sustainable Development Goals.

The discussions will also address the implementation of the System of National
Accounts 2025 and related areas, including the measurement of the digital
economy, globalization, the informal sector and Islamic finance.

The
session will further examine challenges related to the development of
macroeconomic statistics and enhance their comparability in accordance with
international standards.

The second day will include a specialized session on monitoring indicators for
Sustainable Development Goal 6, which relates to clean water and sanitation for
all. The session will focus on the role of national statistical offices in
coordinating with relevant authorities and enhancing the use of administrative
records, geospatial data and household surveys to produce indicators, verify
their quality and prepare related reports.

The session will conclude with consideration of the draft resolution and
closing remarks. It will also feature a side event organized by the General
Authority for Statistics of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the
Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic
Countries (SESRIC), focusing on strengthening partnerships within statistical
systems.NCSI’s participation in the session reflects its commitment to strengthening
statistical cooperation and exchanging expertise and best practices with
statistical offices of OIC member states, keeping pace with developments and
modern methodologies in statistical work, and contributing to improving the
quality of data and indicators and enhancing their role in supporting planning
and decision-making.
