Amman, June 6 (Petra) – First Vice Chairman of Amman Chamber of
Commerce (ACC), Nabil Khatib, called for building upon the
“distinguished” political relations between Jordan and Ethiopia to
enhance bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

During his meeting with Baye Habtamu, Economic and Commercial Advisor
at Ethiopian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Khatib stated the volume of
mutual trade remains “below expectations, despite promising
opportunities in numerous” economic sectors.

Khatib stressed the need to intensify efforts to increase bilateral
trade and expand areas of joint cooperation.

According to an ACC statement on Saturday, Khatib called for
strengthening the exchange of economic and trade information and
establishing a Jordanian-Ethiopian Business Council to coordinate
efforts between business owners and investors and support the
establishment of joint projects and partnerships.

He noted the chamber’s readiness to cooperate in organizing virtual
meetings and exchanging trade delegations, which would facilitate
efforts to identify available investment opportunities and open new
markets for Jordanian and Ethiopian products.

He underscored importance of strengthening cooperation in the tourism
sector and leveraging the direct flight route between the two
countries.

In turn, Habtamu affirmed his country’s interest in enhancing
economic relations with Jordan and removing any obstacles hindering
trade and investment cooperation.

Habtamu noted Jordan enjoys an “attractive investment environment and
stability” that encourage development of broader economic
partnerships between the two countries’ private sectors.

He added that Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies in
Africa and offers diverse investment opportunities, particularly in
the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, as well as possessing a
sophisticated transportation and logistics system.

He called for increased exchange of trade delegations between the two
countries, underlining the Ethiopian side’s readiness to provide the
chamber with information on investment law, the investment
environment, and export opportunities.

He said this effort would help in exchanging reciprocal economic
delegations between Amman and Addis Ababa in the coming period.
