Beirut, June 09 (QNA) – The pullout of the Israeli occupation from Lebanon would help the authority maintain its power and end armed manifestations, said Lebanese President Gen. Joseph Aoun.
Aoun added that the accomplishment of this requirement would literally remove any pretext for wielding weapons except for the legitimate authority and its armed forces.
During his meeting with a delegation of members of the French and European Parliaments, on Tuesday Aoun stressed that it is important to pursue a political, military, and socioeconomic approach when it comes to removing illegal weapons in Lebanon.
This approach, he said, would safeguard political, security, and social stability in the country, emphasizing that his country always looks forward to having actual support from the European Union at multiple stages, particularly support for the military, security enterprises, and the economic situation.
He also noted the initiatives offered by European nations to Lebanon, recalling the importance of distributing this collective contribution under the EU’s oversight across all various domains the country needs. (QNA)
