Berlin, June 21 (QNA) – American Frances Tiafoe was crowned champion of the 33rd Halle Open (ATP 500 event), held on grass courts in Germany, after taking on his compatriot Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in today’s final.
This is the biggest title of Tiafoe’s career at the age of 28, and his fourth overall, following three ATP 250 titles. And he becomes the first American to lift the trophy in the history of the ATP 500 tournament, which was first established in 1993.
Tiafoe’s victory over Fritz marked his third win this week against opponents ranked among the world’s top ten at the OWL Arena. He had previously defeated world No. 10 Flavio Cobolli and world No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The total prize money for the Halle Open amounts to EUR 2,583,330. (QNA)
