Al-Seeb
and Al-Nahda Launch Their Asian Campaign Tomorrow
Muscat,
15 Sep 2026 (ONA) — Al-Seeb and Al-Nahda clubs begin their participation in
the AFC Champions League Two football competition tomorrow, Wednesday, in the
first round of the group stage, whose fixtures kick off today.
Al-Nahda
play their opening match against Saudi Arabia’s Al-Taawoun in Group C at
exactly eight o’clock in the evening Oman time at the Sultan Qaboos Sports
Complex in Bausher, while Qatar’s Al-Rayyan meet Jordan’s Al-Faisaly in the same
group at a quarter past ten in the evening Oman time at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium
in Al-Rayyan.
In
Group D, Al-Seeb face Iraq’s Al-Shorta at a quarter past ten in the evening
Oman time at Al-Zawraa Stadium in Baghdad, while Jordan’s Al-Hussein meet India’s
East Bengal at eight o’clock in the evening at Amman International Stadium.
The
two teams continue their preparations for the competition, formerly known as
the AFC Cup, the continent’s second-tier club tournament, which has borne its
current name since the 2024-2025 season and is being held for the twenty-second
time.
The
top two teams from each of the eight groups, divided equally between the West
and East regions, advance to the round of 16, with the competition played on a
home-and-away league basis, concluding on 9 December 2026.
Round-of-16
matches will be held from 9 to 18 February 2027, quarter-final matches from 2
to 18 March 2027, and the semi-finals from 6 to 14 April 2027, with the final
to be played on 15 May 2027.
Al-Nahda
have entered an internal training camp in Muscat in preparation for their clash
with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Taawoun at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
Al-Nahda are participating for the fifth time, and the second in a row, having
qualified for the tournament after clinching their second title in the HM the Sultan’s
Cup football competition during the 2025-2026 season, and the team aspire to
surpass their semi-final appearance in the 2023-2024 season.
Al-Seeb,
the league champions, meanwhile held a camp in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad,
where they arrived last Sunday, with the participation of all players in
preparation for the encounter. Al-Seeb had been crowned champions of the
competition in 2022.
