San Francisco, June 23 (QNA) – Algeria defeated Jordan 2-1 in the second round of Group J matches of the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
Nizar Al Rashdan scored Jordan’s only goal in the 36th minute. Nadhir Benbouali scored in the 69th minute for Algeria, followed by Amine Gouiri in the 82nd.
Algeria earned its first three points of the tournament, moving up to third in Group J. Jordan remain without points, ranking last in the group.
The first half of the match witnessed offensive initiatives from both teams. Jordan’s Al Rashdan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, putting his country 1-0 up against Algeria by the end of the first half. However, Algeria’s Benbouali equalized in the 69th minute, then Gouiri clinched the victory for Algeria in the 82nd minute.
The two will play their third and final group stage matches on June 28, when Jordan faces Argentina, and Algeria faces Austria. (QNA)
