Muscat Launches 2027 Season of Ironman
Professional Series as First Middle East Host

Nice, 16 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The
Sultanate of Oman will host the Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship in
February 2027. This will mark the first event in the Middle East within the new
championship season, which brings together an elite group of the world’s
leading endurance sports stars.

The announcement of Muscat
hosting the championship came during the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s
participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, held in the French city
of Nice. An official delegation is attending, led by Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al
Busaidi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

Sayyid Al Busaidi met with a
number of senior executives at the Ironman Group and international partners.
The ministry’s delegation was also briefed on the operational, logistical, and
media systems used in managing the championship. These insights will support
the Sultanate of Oman’s preparations to host upcoming international
championships.

The selection of Muscat to launch
the new global season represents an important milestone in the Sultanate of
Oman’s sports tourism journey. It also reflects international confidence in
Oman’s organizational capabilities, its infrastructure, and its accumulated
expertise in organizing and hosting major international sporting events,
alongside its diverse natural terrain and modern urban environments.

The Ironman series is among the
world’s most prominent professional endurance racing series. Its 2027 season
includes eighteen main events across the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races, held
in a number of international destinations.

Professional athletes compete
throughout the season to accumulate points based on their results in the
various races. The aim is to improve their positions in the overall standings
and compete for prize money totalling USD 2 million at the end of the season.

On the sidelines of the
championship in Nice, the “Explore Oman” pavilion provides a window
to showcase the Sultanate of Oman’s distinctive natural, cultural, and heritage
assets. It presents adventure experiences and tourism activities available
across various governorates.

The pavilion also highlights the
international races hosted by the Sultanate of Oman and tourism packages
designed for athletes and their families. This contributes to transforming
participation in sporting events into an integrated tourism experience
extending across a number of Omani destinations and governorates.
