Amman, July 19 (Petra) – The General Industrial Production Index rose
by 0.34 percent in May 2026 compared with the same month of 2025 and
increased by 4.68 percent from April 2026, according to a monthly
report issued by the Department of Statistics.

During the first five months of 2026, the index increased by 0.10
percent compared with the same period of 2025.

The index stood at 87.39 during the January-May period, up from 87.31
a year earlier. In May, it reached 88.34, compared with 88.04 in May
2025 and 84.39 in April 2026.

The cumulative increase during the first five months was driven by a
2.56 percent rise in mining and quarrying, which accounts for 5.4
percent of the index, and a 2.58 percent increase in electricity
production, which represents 5.9 percent. Manufacturing output, which
accounts for 88.7 percent of the index, declined by 0.20 percent.

The year-on-year increase in May reflected a 0.94 percent rise in
manufacturing output. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying output fell by
6.86 percent, and electricity production declined by 1.91 percent.

Compared with April 2026, manufacturing output increased by 5.81
percent, and electricity production edged up by 0.04 percent, while
mining and quarrying output declined by 7.92 percent.
