Foreign Minister Meets Canadian Counterpart, President of 81st
Session of UN General Assembly

New York, 27 Sep 2026 (ONA) — Sayyid
Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister held a meeting with Anita Anand,
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, during which they reviewed ways to
advance the understandings reached during their recent joint consultations and
communications. This took place on the sidelines of their participation in the
81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two sides discussed
leveraging the memorandum of understanding on political consultations to
establish regular dialogue, keep pace with opportunities for cooperation in
energy, critical minerals, and higher education, and encourage trade and
investment ties between the two countries.

The meeting addressed
developments in the region and ongoing communications aimed at supporting
de-escalation, overcoming obstacles to political solutions, protecting
civilians, and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international navigation and
trade, in a manner that reinforces the foundations of regional and
international security and stability.

The Foreign Minister also held
discussions with Dr. Khalilur Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the
United Nations General Assembly, at the Organization’s headquarters in New York,
on the priorities of the current session and ways to build a broader consensus
among member states that supports the United Nations’ capacity to address
interconnected crises and enhances the role of peaceful solutions in addressing
international issues.

The Foreign Minister affirmed the
Sultanate of Oman’s support for the efforts of the General Assembly presidency
to restore confidence in international cooperation and to develop the
performance of the UN system in a manner that upholds the principles of the
Charter and responds to the needs of States and the aspirations of their
peoples.

The meeting also addressed the
contribution of dialogue and preventive diplomacy to conflict reduction, and
the importance of linking peacebuilding efforts with the achievement of
sustainable development, thereby entrenching broader and more enduring
stability.
