Amman, July 24 (Petra)– The Eastern Military Zone thwarted a major
drug smuggling attempt early Friday after intercepting a large
quantity of narcotics carried by guided balloons along its area of
responsibility on the eastern border.
The border guard units detected the balloons and successfully
intercepted and brought them down, along with their illicit cargo,
inside Jordanian territory.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the relevant
security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. The seized drugs
were transferred to the competent authorities to complete the
necessary legal procedures.
