Khartoum, July 24 (SUNA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim said Sudanese diplomacy became the first line of defence against plots targeting the country, carried out through the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. He added that Sudanese diplomacy recognised from the outset of the war that Sudan was facing a major conspiracy. In a joint interview with the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Sudan Radio and Sudan TV, the minister said that, from the early days of the conflict, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan appointed Ambassador Dafallah Al-Haj Ali as a special presidential envoy, supported by a number of diplomats, to explain the reality of the war to various countries, particularly within the regional neighbourhood. He noted that these diplomatic efforts had achieved positive results in persuading the international community of Sudan’s account of the conflict. He commended Sudanese diplomacy for successfully countering the RSF’s narrative, including its claims of fighting for democracy and dismantling the “State of 1956,” saying it had presented a clear, evidence-based case that effectively refuted those claims. The minister said the RSF commander’s early media statements—that his forces had surrounded Al-Burhan and that he must either surrender or be killed—revealed the true nature of the conflict. He added that all evidence indicated it was an attempted coup backed by a massive media campaign and substantial funding. He also regretted that some Sudanese had become the militia’s political arm, saying this had made confronting the plot more difficult.BH/BH
