Amman, July 27 (Petra) — Continued security and public awareness
efforts over recent years have contributed to a noticeable decline in
dangerous practices associated with celebrations, while authorities
will continue to take firm action against violations that endanger
lives, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said.

According to the PSD, incidents involving celebratory gunfire,
vehicle convoys that obstruct roads, passengers extending their
bodies outside moving vehicles, and other behaviors that disrupt
traffic have become less frequent. It attributed the trend to
increased public awareness of the risks these practices pose to
lives, property, and public safety.

The PSD said that while the decline is encouraging, the persistence
of some cases highlights the need to continue enforcement efforts and
awareness campaigns, alongside strengthening public rejection of such
conduct.

The Directorate stressed that celebrating special occasions is a
legitimate social practice, but said expressions of celebration
should not violate the law, endanger others, or interfere with the
movement of road users. Such actions, it said, are inconsistent with
public responsibility and are subject to legal accountability.

It added that celebratory gunfire remains among the most serious
violations because of the threat it poses to people and property and
will continue to be addressed firmly under the law. The PSD also
warned that convoy driving, reckless driving, and allowing passengers
to extend their bodies outside moving vehicles increase risks on the
roads and negatively affect traffic safety.

The PSD confirmed that it will continue implementing its security,
traffic, and monitoring plans while taking legal action against
anyone involved in these dangerous practices.

It also called on citizens to help promote a culture of responsible
celebration by reporting violations through the unified emergency
number 911, uploading photos and videos via the 911 mobile
application, or contacting the designated WhatsApp number 0797911911
or the Traffic Department hotline 0770999030. The Directorate
affirmed that all reports are handled confidentially and with the
utmost seriousness to enhance public safety and protect lives and
property.
