Amman, Aug. 5 (Petra) –The Jordan Today Center for Development
(JTCD), in cooperation with Asfar Consulting and Training, held the
first Jordan Quantum Computing Technology Forum on Wednesday.
JTCD Director General Mohammad Al-Faqir said the forum comes as
Jordan prepares to engage with the next wave of technological
advancement, potentially linked to the fifth industrial revolution,
driven by quantum computing and its ability to process information,
perform complex tasks, and execute operations across various sectors
at speeds beyond the capacity of traditional computers.
He said the forum aims to discuss the foundations and principles of
quantum computing, its rapid development, current applications in
different fields, future prospects, and the challenges associated
with the technology.
Nader Qahoush, Director General of Asfar Consulting and Training,
said the forum addresses a highly significant topic given the
wide-ranging impact and applications of quantum computing across
economic, political, legal, scientific, and medical fields.
He said discussions will cover the technology from multiple
perspectives, including its physical foundations and the scientific
principles behind a major technological shift, as well as the
opportunities and benefits created by its advanced computing
capabilities.
Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan Khaldoun Washah said
quantum computing represents a major development in information
technology, with the potential to address complex challenges at
speeds that significantly exceed traditional computing capabilities.
He noted that the technology has strategic importance due to its
potential applications in several areas, including improving
investment portfolio management, supporting macroeconomic
forecasting, developing more advanced financial stress-testing
models, and accelerating innovation in financial services.
At the same time, Washah warned that as quantum computing reaches
advanced levels of development, it could pose challenges to current
encryption systems used to protect financial transactions and
sensitive data of individuals and institutions.
He said the sectoral roadmap for transition to quantum-resistant
encryption, recently issued by the Central Bank of Jordan, provides a
strategic framework for the financial and banking sectors as they
prepare to adopt technologies capable of addressing potential quantum
computing-related risks.
The two-day forum brings together more than 50 experts from banking,
technology, and economic sectors to discuss developments,
applications, and challenges related to quantum computing.
