Washington, August 06 (QNA) – Google has officially announced the date on which it will begin phasing out Google Assistant on eligible devices, thus closing a chapter that has lasted for years in the use of its voice assistant, in preparation for full reliance on Gemini.
According to an email the company sent to users, which was circulated on Reddit, the process of shutting down Google Assistant will begin on Sept. 4, 2026, on eligible phones and tablets.
Google explained that the transition will be gradual over several weeks, meaning the voice assistant will not disappear from all devices on the same day. Once the update reaches any eligible device, Gemini will automatically replace Google Assistant, and the user will not be able to revert to the old assistant.
According to a report published by Digital Trends, the decision includes Android phones and tablets that meet the requirements for Gemini, as well as several accessories that rely on the assistant in the phone, such as Wear OS watches, compatible headphones, and cars that use Android Auto via a connected phone.
