Amman, August 11 (Petra) – The Senate Committee on Persons with Disabilities reviewed proposals on the rights and political participation of persons with disabilities in the draft Local Administration Law.
The committee, chaired by Senator Asia Yaghi, examined recommendations from a consultative workshop, assessing their consistency with the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the principles of equality, equal opportunity and non-discrimination.
Yaghi called for clear, practical provisions and mechanisms to ensure the needs of persons with disabilities are integrated into local policies, plans, and programmes. She urged a shift from a care-based approach to one focused on rights, empowerment and full participation.
The committee reviewed proposed amendments to clarify the report’s recommendations and ensure they accurately reflect its conclusions.
