Amman, Sept. 8 (Petyra) — The First Deputy Speaker of the Lower
House of Parliament, Khamis Atieh, reaffirmed on Tuesday the
kingdom’s firm position under the leadership of His Majesty King
Abdullah II in supporting Palestinian rights, primarily the
establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,
while firmly rejecting displacement, an alternative homeland, and any
attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and
Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

In an official statement, Atieh stated that Jordan will remain at the
forefront of defending the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the
kingdom’s national security, sovereignty, and stability are red
lines. He added that Jordan will not allow its territory or borders
to be used for plans targeting the country or the Palestinian cause.

Atieh noted that settlement expansion, attacks on Palestinians, and
land confiscations in the West Bank are not isolated incidents but
rather part of an integrated Israeli project aimed at entrenching the
occupation, annexing land, and undermining the feasibility of
establishing an independent Palestinian state and the right of return
for refugees.

He condemned the ongoing actions committed by Israeli forces against
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem,
stressing that killing, destruction, starvation, forced displacement,
settlement expansion, and land seizures are aimed at liquidating the
Palestinian cause and forcibly imposing a new reality on the ground.

The lawmaker emphasized that the continued aggression on Gaza,
alongside escalating settlement activity and attacks in the West
Bank, reveals that the Israeli government disregards international
law and UN resolutions. He called on the international community to
move beyond mere condemnation toward accountability and deterrent
measures.

Atieh welcomed steps taken by Canada, Denmark, Finland, France,
Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the
United Kingdom regarding Israeli settlement products. He viewed these
stances as a significant development in the international approach to
settlements, demonstrating that the occupation and its practices
cannot continue without political and economic consequences.

Stressing that the immediate priority in Gaza is halting the
aggression, protecting civilians, ensuring the unhindered entry of
humanitarian aid, and rejecting any displacement schemes, Atieh
stated that transforming the humanitarian catastrophe into a
permanent reality is unacceptable under any pretext.

He called on the international community to fulfill its legal and
moral responsibilities, hold those responsible for crimes against
Palestinians accountable, and support a political path that leads to
ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise
their right to freedom, independence, and self-determination.
