Madaba, Sept. 29 (Petra) – Patriarch Daniil, the Patriarch of All
Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia, visited St. George’s Church on
Tuesday to tour its historical, spiritual, and artistic heritage
during his official visit to Jordan.

Local priests, community leaders, and faculty from the nearby
Patriarchal School welcomed the delegation, while the St. George
Scouts and Guides played music in honor of the visit.

The patriarch learned about the church’s world-famous 6th-century
mosaic map. As the oldest known mosaic map of the Holy Land, the
artifact documents sacred sites and cities across the region,
showcasing the deep rooted Christian history in the area.

Following the church tour, the delegation visited the Patriarchal
School, where Director General Ignatius Khalifeh briefed them on the
school system’s educational mission and its role in nurturing
spiritual values, human ethics, and civic pride across Jordan’s
governorates.

The visit concluded with a dinner honoring Patriarch Daniil.
Archimandrite Andreas Shamieh, spiritual leader of Madaba, welcomed
the guest of honor and presented him with a commemorative Jordan
River mosaic artwork.

In return, Patriarch Daniil presented Archimandrite Shamieh with a
Holy Cross in recognition of his pastoral service.
