Amman, Sept. 29 (Petra) – His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday
received Patriarch Daniil, the Patriarch of All Bulgaria and
Metropolitan of Sofia, at Al Husseiniya Palace.

During the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin
Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural
affairs and personal envoy, the King affirmed that Jordan would
continue to safeguard the Christian presence in the region.

His Majesty reiterated that, under the Hashemite Custodianship,
Jordan will uphold its historic and legal role in safeguarding Muslim
and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and confronting ongoing
violations against them.

The King invited Patriarch Daniil to take part in Jordan’s 2030
millennium celebrations commemorating two thousand years since the
baptism of Jesus Christ, to be held at the Baptism Site of Jesus
Christ (Bethany Beyond the Jordan).

His Majesty noted that the occasion presents an opportunity to
highlight the historical and religious significance of the Baptism
Site and other sites of religious and touristic importance in Jordan.

For his part, Patriarch Daniil praised the King’s custodianship of
the Christian holy sites and efforts to safeguard the Christian
presence in the region, expressing his appreciation for the warm
welcome afforded by Jordan to international Christian visitors to the
Kingdom’s Christian religious sites.

Patriarch Daniil also commended the Kingdom for its important role as
a model of peace, coexistence, and interfaith harmony.

Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Patriarch
Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine and Jordan,
and Greek Orthodox Archbishop and Head of the Council of Church
Leaders Archbishop Christophoros Atallah attended the meeting.
