Amman, Sept. 29 (Petra) — Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman
emphasized on Tuesday that obtaining documented environmental data
for products has become essential for Jordanian factories to maintain
export competitiveness, particularly in European markets.

Speaking at the launch of the “Promoting the Circular Economy Market
and Life Cycle Assessment” project, Suleiman underscored the
importance of building national capabilities to measure and verify
the environmental impact of local products.

The project is implemented by the Jordan Green Building Council
(Jordan GBC) with support from GIZ under the “Green Activities in
Industrial Facilities” (GAIN) program, funded by the German Federal
Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Jordan GBC Chairman Abdullah Bdeir noted that the initiative
addresses a key shortage of local experts trained in Life Cycle
Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD).

GIZ GAIN Project Director Simon Floeth highlighted the Jordan-Germany
partnership in guiding the industrial sector toward a green economy
transition.

Jordan GBC Executive Director and Project Manager Ghaida Salameh,
alongside GIZ Private Sector Advisor Mohammad Al-Shoshan, outlined
the project components running through April 2027, targeting building
materials, construction, chemicals, and engineering sectors.

The initiative focuses on capacity building through training, pilot
studies, assisting industrial facilities in issuing certified EPDs,
and preparing a practical guide for quick-impact green measures in
industrial cities in cooperation with the Jordan Industrial Estates
Corporation and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.

During the event, Jordan GBC announced the trainees who completed the
LCA training program and named five selected industrial companies for
the implementation phase: Manaseer Group, Arab Concrete, Orbit
Aluminum Industries, Arab Fertilizers & Chemicals Industries
(KEMAPCO), and Arab Italian Insulation Materials.

Ten trainees will conduct five LCA studies across the selected
companies, with two facilities qualifying to publish certified EPDs
internationally.

The launch concluded with a technical session presented by Ipek
Goktas Kalkan, founder of Finnish firm EPDlogy, discussing the return
on investment in product sustainability data, the Carbon Border
Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and circular economy alignment.
