AHU students win top prize at PixelSite competition for ‘Rihlati’ tourism platform

Maan, Oct. 6 (Petra) — A student team from the Faculty of
Information Technology at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University (AHU) won
first place in the Pixel Site competition hosted by Isra University,
competing against more than 109 teams from various Jordanian
universities.

The winning team comprising students Sukaina Al-Habahbeh, Batool Abu
Jwaid, Muhanad Abu Hilalah, and Malik Al-Howeitat advanced through
the first stage among the top 32 teams, secured the highest score in
the second stage among the top 12 teams, and ultimately earned the
top position in the final round.

The victory was secured through “Rihlati,” a digital platform
designed to enhance Jordan’s tourism and investment landscape. The
platform offers customized travel itineraries based on tourist
preferences and needs, helping travelers discover hidden destinations
across the Kingdom.

“Rihlati” also features a dedicated portal for tourism investors,
leveraging data analytics and preference-matching algorithms to
connect entrepreneurs with relevant investment opportunities and
target tourist demographics.

The project features a full administrative dashboard for managing
content, users, questionnaires, matching preferences, investor
requests, and analytics. It was developed using HTML, CSS,
JavaScript, and Firebase.

AHU President Atef Al-Kharabsheh praised the achievement, stating
that it highlights the students’ capability to transform academic
knowledge into innovative tech solutions. He reiterated the
university’s commitment to supporting innovation and student
participation in competitive technical challenges.

Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology Omar Ghaleb
Al-Shawawreh expressed pride in the team’s performance, emphasizing
that taking first place at PixelSite reflects the high standard of
technical skills and creative problem-solving among the university’s
students at both local and regional levels.
