Amman, Oct. 11 (Petra) –Southern Military Zone thwarted an attempt
to smuggle narcotics into Jordan using guided balloons on Sunday
morning, which attempted to cross the Kingdom’s borders illegally.
Border guard units, operating within their area of responsibility,
spotted the balloons and brought them down inside Jordanian
territory.
The guards seized the narcotics, in coordination with security and
military agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.
The seized items were referred to the competent authorities for legal
action.
In its statement, Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)– Arab Army said border
guard forces will not be deterred by repeated smuggling attempts or
shifting tactics.
The JAF added that troops continue to monitor all illicit activities
along the border and will “deal with it firmly.”
