Banjul Summit: Screening of Documentary on 50th OIC Anniversary, Role of Al-Quds Committee, Chaired by HM the King

The film looks back at the creation of the OIC in September 1969 at the Rabat Summit, following the arson attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds, Islam’s third holiest site, and highlights the determined ambition of its 57 member states to protect and safeguard the interests of the Muslim world while promoting global peace and harmony.

As such, the documentary gives an overview of the Organization and its main bodies, as well as its missions and most salient actions in favor of peace and security, the Palestinian cause and the Holy City of Al-Quds, poverty reduction and the fight against terrorism.

The film includes footage of the historic speech delivered by the late HM King Hassan II, in which the late Sovereign announced the creation of the Organization, a milestone in the history of the Islamic world and in the strengthening of joint Islamic action.

It also looks back at the actions and achievements of the OIC’s Committees, particularly the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, with a focus on the initiatives accomplished by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, its contribution and sustained efforts to protect the Holy City and support the Al-Quds population’s resistance.

The documentary also includes passages from HM King Mohammed VI’s speech at the 20th session of the Al-Quds Committee, held on January 17, 2014 in Marrakech, in which the Sovereign affirmed that the chairmanship of the Al-Quds Committee is not a favor, nor is it a privilege but, rather, a crucial sacred trust and a tremendous responsibility before God and history.

“For this reason, and in consultation with our brothers and partners, I have devoted myself to defending the Arab-Islamic character of the city of Al-Quds, the cradle of the revealed religions and the symbol of peace and intercultural coexistence,” said His Majesty the King at the opening of this session.

The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, an offshoot of the Al-Quds Committee, is organizing exhibitions of Palestinian products on the sidelines of the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference in Banjul.

The Agency is also exhibiting archive photos of previous sessions of the Al-Quds Committee, as well as the 2023 activity report, the report on the Agency’s silver jubilee celebrations under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, and a photo album on the operation to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Al Quds and Gaza during the month of Ramadan, ordered by His Majesty the King.

A documentary film on the 50th anniversary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), focusing in particular on the role played by the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by HM King Mohammed VI, was screened at the 15th session of the OIC Islamic Summit Conference, held on May 4-5 in the Gambian capital, Banjul.
