DoS: Third phase of population census to conclude in early July

Amman, June 22 (Petra) – Department of Statistics (DoS) Director
General Haider Freihat said on Monday the 2026 general population and
housing census’s completion rate in its third phase is at 90 percent.

He said at a regular meeting of the Census Media Committee on Monday
that the census is proceeding according to schedule and at a rapid
pace, predicting completion in the near future.

The target date for completing the current phase of the census runs
until mid-July, with possible limited extensions in some areas or
neighborhoods, which is normal in such large-scale field operations,
Freihat pointed out.

He said several governorates have completed the census entirely,
reaching 100 percent, while Amman remains one of the areas that
required additional effort due to population density and vast
geographical area.

However, the process is proceeding smoothly and according to plan.

The DoS head said his department continues to hold coordination
meetings with governors and executive councils in various
governorates, including Aqaba, Ma’an, Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, and the
capital, Amman, in addition to Balqa tomorrow.

Meetings in the remaining governorates will be wrapped up in the
coming weeks, he added, stressing that such meetings aim to enhance
institutional coordination and explain the census requirements and
the roles of official bodies in its success.
