Saudi Arabia’s Voluntary Carbon Market Fuels the Shift to a Low-Carbon
Brussels, October 02 (QNA) – The European Union has rejected a US threat to restrict diesel exports to Europe unless European countries release more fuel from their reserves.
European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said the EU “strongly rejects” any ban on diesel exports, warning that such a measure would undermine trust between the two sides.
She said the proposed restriction would not serve the interests of either side and could affect confidence in the United States as a reliable partner.
EU countries have been discussing a French proposal to release 50 million barrels of diesel from European reserves, alongside a planned release of 50 million barrels of crude oil by members of the International Energy Agency.
The measures are intended to increase supplies and ease pressure on fuel prices amid tight conditions in global markets.
The European Commission said diesel supplies in the EU remain stable for now, although prices continue to be elevated because of limited global supply.
The EU’s Oil Coordination Group is scheduled to meet on October 15, although the meeting could be brought forward if developments warrant it. (QNA)
