EU Set to Consider Sanctions on
Israeli Settlements
Brussels, 13 July 2026 (ONA) — European
Union foreign ministers are set to discuss the situation in the Middle East
during their meeting in Brussels today, including the potential imposition of
additional sanctions in response to Israel’s expansion of settlements in the
occupied West Bank.
The European Commission has drawn
up a range of options for consultation, including restrictions and a ban on the
import of goods originating from Israeli settlements.
It remains unclear whether the
EU’s 27 member states will be able to adopt a unified stance on the matter.
Spain, Ireland, and Belgium have called for tough sanctions against Israel over
its settlement policies, while other nations, including Germany, have so far
opposed such a move.
Should trade restrictions be
classified as foreign policy sanctions, they would require unanimous approval
from all member states.
