Finance Minister Discusses Development Partnership with Thailand International Cooperation Agency

Bangkok (SUNA) – On the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim met with Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), to discuss ways to develop bilateral cooperation between Sudan and Thailand within the framework of Africa–Thailand cooperation. The discussions focused on strengthening their development partnership and supporting Sudan’s economic and productive priorities. Both sides stressed the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework for cooperation, define its areas and determine implementation mechanisms. They also highlighted the importance of enhancing Sudan’s participation in the annual Africa–Thailand Forum to expand opportunities for exchanging expertise and benefiting from development experiences. The meeting explored cooperation opportunities in vocational training and capacity-building, agriculture and food security, including fish marketing, as well as energy, water, sugar production and the salt trade. Particular emphasis was placed on harnessing Thai expertise to support production and strengthen national capacities. The two sides agreed to dispatch technical teams to assess cooperation opportunities on the ground, evaluate needs and identify priority projects in preparation for developing practical, implementable programmes. The aim is to move cooperation beyond mutual understanding towards productive partnerships that support economic recovery and sustainable development in Sudan.BH/BH
