Ankara, October 02 (QNA) – Five workers have died after a mine collapsed in the western Turkish province of Manisa, authorities said.
The Manisa provincial administration said seven workers were inside the mine when the collapse occurred on Thursday. Rescue teams managed to pull two workers from the rubble shortly after the incident.
Search and rescue teams later recovered the bodies of three other workers who had been trapped underground, bringing the death toll to five.
Turkiye’s Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said an investigation had been launched into the cause of the collapse, with three prosecutors assigned to oversee the inquiry.
Soma was the site of Turkiye’s deadliest mining disaster in 2014, when 301 miners died from carbon monoxide poisoning following an underground fire caused by an explosion. (QNA)
