During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, scheduled for May 4 and 5 in Banjul, the two parties examined bilateral relations and ways of further strengthening them in various fields.

The meeting took place within the framework of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two brotherly countries on issues of common interest.

The Sultanate of Brunei is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which comprises 10 states. At the meeting held on September 4, 2023 in Jakarta, Morocco was granted the status of “Sectoral Dialogue Partner” of this grouping, becoming the first North African country to obtain this status. This status confirms the farsighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI concerning the diversification of partners, and consolidates the Kingdom’s position as a privileged partner of this important geopolitical and economic grouping.  The Kingdom has thus joined Switzerland, Norway, Turkey, Pakistan, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.

Bourita had previously held a series of talks with several of his counterparts taking part in the Islamic summit which opens on Saturday in the Gambian capital, in the presence of the heads of state and government of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Minister held talks with the foreign ministers of Yemen, Niger, Gabon, Mali, Gambia, Senegal and Mauritania, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and issues of common interest.
