Amman, Aug. 25 (Petra)– Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi on Tuesday received
Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh for talks focused on
developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and continued
coordination and consultation between Jordan and Palestine.

The meeting, attended by Fatah Central Committee member and General
Intelligence Service Chief Majed Faraj and Palestinian National
Council President Rawhi Fattouh, addressed the serious deterioration
in the occupied West Bank.

Safadi and Al-Sheikh warned of the consequences of continued Israeli
illegal measures, including settler terrorism, settlement expansion,
land confiscation and efforts to undermine the Palestinian economy.

They condemned the escalation of settler violence against
Palestinians and Israel’s ongoing systematic campaign targeting the
United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees
(UNRWA), as well as restrictions imposed on the agency and its
institutions in occupied Jerusalem.

They also condemned the Israeli authorities’ decision to issue
tenders for the construction of hundreds of settlement units as part
of the E1 settlement project east of occupied Jerusalem.

Safadi and Al-Sheikh stressed the need to halt Israeli violations in
occupied Jerusalem and Israel’s systematic attempts to alter the
existing historical and legal status quo at Islamic and Christian
holy sites. They also underscored the importance of implementing the
outcomes of the ministerial meeting on supporting Jerusalem and its
holy sites, which Jordan hosted on August 8.

Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, Safadi and Al-Sheikh
stressed the need to consolidate stability, fully implement all
provisions of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, and ensure the
uninterrupted and sustainable delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid
to the Strip to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.

They called for effective and serious regional and international
action to halt Israel’s illegal measures that entrench the
occupation, undermine prospects for a just peace, push the West Bank
toward an explosion of violence, and constitute a blatant violation
of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

Safadi and Al-Sheikh stressed that establishing an independent and
sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East
Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, remains
the only path toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace that
guarantees lasting security and stability in the region.

The two sides agreed to maintain cooperation and coordination on
developments and issues of mutual interest.
