Gulf Standards Authority Issues Over 29,000 Standards and Technical Regulations

Riyadh, October 13 (QNA) – GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) has issued more than 29,000 Gulf standards and technical regulations, supporting product safety, trade and industrial competitiveness across the GCC states.

HE GSO President Jabor Al Naimi announced the figure ahead of World Standards Day on October 14, which this year focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 7: affordable and clean energy, under the theme “our shared vision for a better world”.

Al Naimi said standards play a vital role in protecting consumers, improving product quality, boosting production efficiency and facilitating trade. They also help address economic, environmental and technological challenges by promoting innovation and the efficient use of resources.

He said the organization works with national standards bodies across GCC states to harmonize technical regulations, strengthen conformity assessment and align regional requirements with international practices.

The initiative aims to support economic integration, improve the competitiveness of Gulf industries, facilitate trade with regional and international partners, and protect public health and the environment.

Al Naimi called for closer cooperation between governments, the private sector, scientific institutions and technical experts to advance sustainable development and build a more competitive Gulf economy.

World Standards Day is marked annually by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), highlighting the role of international standards in addressing global challenges. (QNA)
