Amman, Jan. 19 (Petra) — Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi said Sunday the international community has the responsibility to accelerate reconstruction in the Gaza Strip after a ceasefire takes hold.
He reiterated at a meeting with Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the British House of Commons, Jordan’s unwavering support for the Palestinians and commitment to aid and relief efforts in Gaza.
Safadi told the British MPs, including members of the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democratic parties, that finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue is the key to regional stability, warning that continued denial of Palestinian rights would perpetuate the conflict.
The discussion also tackled parliamentary cooperation, enhancing mutual investment opportunities, and other regional issues, particularly the urgency of Syria’s reconstruction.
For her part, Thornberry highlighted the House of Commons’ commitment to strengthening ties with Jordan’s Lower House, commending the Kingdom’s pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in promoting regional security and stability.
She recognized Jordan’s efforts towards refugees and reaffirmed Britain’s support of the Kingdom as a strategic partner.
