Irbid, Jan 21 (Petra) – The Governor of Irbid, Radwan Otoum, met with the ambassadors of Scandinavian countries in Jordan (Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark), accompanied by the Director-General of the UNHCR, at the governorate headquarters to discuss the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis on the service and development sectors in the region.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Otoum highlighted the effects of the Syrian refugee presence on various sectors and reviewed the services provided to refugees in education, healthcare, and other areas. He outlined the key needs and development projects that require broader international support to meet the health, food, and shelter needs of the refugee population.
Otoum underlined that Irbid Governorate offers an investment-friendly environment with well-equipped industrial and development zones. He praised the strong relations between Jordan and Scandinavian countries across various fields, particularly political, cultural, and scientific domains, and stressed the importance of enhancing economic and investment ties.
The ambassadors commended Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees despite limited resources and challenges. They expressed their readiness to provide assistance to Jordan and support the local community through development projects, particularly in the water sector, in addition to supporting the healthcare sector.
These efforts are part of strengthening international cooperation and addressing the needs of refugees, helping to alleviate pressure on the service and development sectors in Irbid Governorate.
