Amman, May 14 (Petra) – The Ministry of Water and Irrigation Wednesday signed with a local contractor a JD6.1 million agreement, including a JD 5.756 million grant from the US government, to upgrade the water network in Tafileh Governorate.

The project aims to improve the efficiency of the water supply system in Tafilah, rehabilitate and develop main and secondary water lines, and reduce water loss in the region, according to a ministry statement.

Minister of Water Raed Abu Al-Saud stressed the importance of modernizing and developing the water networks’ efficiency across the Kingdom to reduce water loss and carry out new water projects.

The Tafilah water project includes the construction of 3.7-kilometer main lines from the Al-Eis reservoir to Tafileh city, and 11.6-KM lines from the Zabda reservoir to the Hasa 3 pump station, using ductile iron pipes, the minister said.

It will also rehabilitate the old network in the city through construction of 32.3-KM new lines, including 14 kilometers of ductile pipe and 18.3 kilometers of polyethylene, he added.
