Amman, June 16 (Petra)– Jordanians are eagerly awaiting a historic
and unprecedented milestone in the nation’s football journey as the
national team, known as the “Nashama,” prepares to make its
first-ever appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday
morning.

The national team will open its World Cup campaign against Austria
amid widespread anticipation and excitement across the Kingdom. The
occasion has sparked an atmosphere of national pride and unity,
reflecting the significance of an achievement that generations of
Jordanian football fans have long dreamed of.

Despite the early kick-off time, supporters across the country are
determined to follow the match and witness a landmark moment in
Jordan’s sporting history. The Nashama have captured international
attention through their determination and remarkable rise, inspiring
optimism among fans ahead of the tournament.

Discussions about the opening match against Austria dominate
conversations in cities, villages, and refugee camps throughout
Jordan, with many expressing confidence in the team’s ability to
deliver a strong and honorable performance on football’s biggest
stage.

In the heart of the capital, Amman’s Roman Theater is preparing to
welcome thousands of supporters for a live public screening of the
match, which kicks off at 7:00 a.m. local time. The event is being
organized by the Ministry of Youth in cooperation with the Greater
Amman Municipality and the Jordan Tourism Board.

The initiative aims to provide fans with an opportunity to watch the
national team together in a festive atmosphere bringing families,
young people, and football enthusiasts from across the Kingdom.
Interactive activities and entertainment programs will precede the
match, while gates will open two hours before kick-off. Attendance
will be free of charge.

The Ministry of Youth has also arranged giant screens to broadcast
Jordan’s World Cup matches at four major sports cities and 60 youth
centers nationwide. Public screenings will be available at Al-Arena
Hall in Al Hussein Youth City in Amman, Al Hassan Youth City in
Irbid, Prince Faisal Youth City in Karak, and Aqaba Youth City.

One of Amman’s most iconic landmarks, the Roman Theater will be
transformed into a vibrant national gathering place where Jordanians
can unite behind their team during its historic World Cup debut. The
venue carries special symbolism, having witnessed more than 2,000
years of the city’s history and hosted countless cultural, artistic,
and sporting events.
